hi im aya and i basically like a lot of tv shows, books, movies, bands, and other stuffs.
inspired by one of my favourite book covers, nine stories by j. d. salinger.
"All you could do is really try your best."
His Last Vow is seriously an emotionally exhausting episode, and now I see why it was put at a juxtaposition with The Sign of Three. Both brilliant episodes, but one comedic and light and easy to breathe in with a series of clever cases woven together. The other, a dark, draining, intense 90 minutes packed with movement and emotional trauma and exploring deep into the dark psyches of our favorite characters. If anyone was complaining about how light-hearted the season felt, I think they’ll be much more satisfied now.
With TSoT, I could rewatch and rewatch and still laugh and find new things. With HLV, it’s quite a different adventure. I can rewatch, but it has to be with time between, time to recover and regroup. When an episode leaves you, the viewer, with such a mixture of emotions that you have to take time and think about them an reflect upon them, also take a step back to realize the gravity of the writing itself. This is the mark of good television.
One of my favorite things about this series is that, while the cases and the plot still managed to be central and important even when they were seemingly not, this series went into greater depth about the characters we love. We got to explore deep into the recesses of their minds, of what these individuals are like without each other, and how they’ve come to a place in their life where without each other, they are not the characters we know. How profound is that?
I also need to go off on a tangent about how brilliant all the women in this series were. In the past, the women of Sherlock have really taken a backseat. This can be done effectively, I won’t allude that it can’t. You can have supporting female characters that still portray pro-feminist writing. The fact that series three was able to deliver well-rounded, fascinating, intelligent, relatable women, even though one of them, it turns out, has an antagonizing past… well, this has to be one of the most rewarding parts of the new series for me.
I honestly cannot wait for series 4. I might actually become deaded by the hiatus.
what the hell is everyone talking about?! this series is good as the others too!
